Career Day at Castle Hills Elementary
Students were eager to hear about all the career paths they could possibly take in life. Career day is a special event for adults to explain their profession, which helps students further develop their hopes and dreams of what they want to be when they grow up.
Via Metropolitan Transit, Castle Hills Firemen, Policemen, Bankers, and more were all there to discuss their careers. Our President, Mary Son, Vice President, Tim Son, Product Development Professional, Miguel Alatorre, and Director of Marketing, Elizabeth Miller, were among the many that were excited about discussing their profession and the history of Jell-Craft Products.
We educated three second grade classes on what it takes to run a beverage company. They learned about Jell-Craft products’ founder, Walter Oertling who originally developed his punch concentrate in his chemistry class at Louisiana State University, and how his class assignment turned into a 70 year old beverage brand.
Miguel told the students how important schooling is in order to do any profession. He further explained that chemistry, science and math have really helped him grow in his career, and without the knowledge he learned in school he wouldn’t be able to do his job.
Miguel walked the kids through the steps he takes when sampling a new product we want to bring to fruition. Currently, we are working on a drink directed towards kids ages 7-12, and we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get kids feedback. This drink is made with an all-natural sweetener, Vitamin C, and does not include any high fructose corn syrup.
We had each student sample 3 drinks. As they tasted each drink they had to complete a questionnaire that describes the process Miguel goes through each time he creates a new drink concept. We told the students that by doing this process they are helping us determine if these drinks will be a fit for retail shelves. Once we completed the process, Mary thanked them for being a “Son Beverage team member” for the sampling.
Tim and Miguel both iterated how important it is to find a career you love and enjoy going to work at every day. Miguel ended each session with a quote, “Love what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
